Midjourney

One of the best-known AI image generators, famous for making the most beautiful pictures of the early AI era.

Midjourney turns text descriptions into images. It earned its reputation on aesthetics: while other tools produced technically correct pictures, Midjourney produced ones with taste (moody lighting, strong composition, a recognisable painterly signature), and it became the tool behind a large share of the striking AI imagery that flooded the internet from 2022 onward.

It sits in a crowded field now: OpenAI's image tools inside ChatGPT, Google's image models, open-source options like Stable Diffusion, and design-platform features in Canva and Adobe. Each has strengths; Midjourney's has stayed visual quality and style control.

Why you keep hearing it

Because it is shorthand for AI imagery in general, the way Photoshop once was for editing. When a campaign gets caught using an AI visual, or a debate flares about AI and illustrators, Midjourney is usually the name in the headline.

What it means for you

For marketers, image generation is brilliant for moodboards, concept exploration and internal presentations, and riskier for published brand work: rights questions, brand-safety wobbles (hands, logos, text) and the growing audience radar for AI slop all apply. Explore freely, publish deliberately, and keep a human eye on anything that carries your logo.
